ReDorm Inc. · 501(c)(3)

Make dorm reuse mainstream.

Roughly 2,000 U.S. campuses have student housing. Almost none of them run a move-out reuse program — so every May the same furniture, fridges, and bedding go to a landfill, and every August the next class buys it new.

We’re here to change that number. A personal donation is what moves it — you’re not funding one campus, you’re helping spread the mission to the ones that haven’t started yet.

Amount

$999 is the one amount we tie to a real number: it’s exactly what a campus with up to 2,500 students in housing pays for a year of ReDorm Gold. Give it and you’ve carried one campus for a full year.

Secured by Stripe. Card details never touch our servers.

Why a personal donation matters here.

We publish corrections when the sector’s favorite statistics turn out to be unsourced. We’re not going to invent impact numbers for a donation page either — so here is the actual case, with the actual figures behind it.

The gap is about 2,000 campuses wide.

Roughly 2,000 U.S. campuses have student housing, and only a handful run a real move-out reuse program. Every one of the rest throws away the same furniture, fridges, and bedding each May, and sells the next class a new set each August. Making reuse mainstream means reaching all of them — not perfecting it at one.

Mainstream means free to start.

A campus with no program has no budget line for one, because the thing the budget would fund doesn’t exist yet. So ReDorm Green costs $0, forever — real inventory tools, a real storefront, real impact reporting. Your donation is what lets us say yes to a campus before it has any funding of its own.

Reuse is the part of the waste system nobody funds.

The EPA’s most recent complete accounting puts furniture and furnishings at 12.1 million tons entering municipal solid waste in a single year — 80.1% landfilled, under half a percent recycled. Recycling has public infrastructure and public money behind it. Reuse has neither. It runs on students with box trucks.

The idea is easy. The operation is brutal.

Every campus hits the same wall: thousands of items to catalog inside a two-week window, nowhere to put them, no way to price them, and a sustainability office that needs a defensible number for a report in the fall. The gap between “great idea” and “runs again next year” is operational software — and that is the thing we build.

We ran this ourselves before we built it.

2024 at USC: 16,394 pounds — 8.2 tons — pulled out of 22 buildings in 15 days. ReDorm is that operation turned into a product, by the people who did the operation.

It puts students to work.

Our partnership with the California Center for Climate Change Education lets us hire students onto this every year — not volunteers, paid student staff doing climate work on their own campus. More funding is more students, on more campuses.

A personal gift moves differently than a grant.

Foundations fund pilots and want novelty. Universities fund what already exists on their own campus. Neither one funds the unglamorous middle — the tenth campus, the second season, the 11pm support call during move-out week. Individual donations are the only money that reaches that middle without conditions attached, which is exactly where making something mainstream actually happens.

Where your gift actually goes.

Three things, in this order — all of them pointed at the same question: how does the next campus start?

01

Reaching campuses with no program yet

Outreach, onboarding, and the free tier itself — everything it takes to get a campus from zero to a first move-out season without asking it for money it doesn't have.

02

Paid student roles

Student staff and fellows who build the platform and run programs on their own campuses. Paid work, not résumé volunteering.

03

Getting programs through year two

Data migration, training the next student coordinator, and real support during move-out week — the unglamorous work that decides whether a program survives its founder graduating.

The details, plainly.

  • Card details are processed entirely by Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • We never sell, rent, or trade donor information — to anyone, for any reason.
  • Monthly gifts can be changed or canceled by you, instantly, at /donate/manage.

Questions people actually ask.

Is my donation tax-deductible?+

Yes. ReDorm Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a donation.

What receipt do I get?+

Two things, automatically, for every gift regardless of size. Stripe sends an itemized payment receipt, and ReDorm sends a 501(c)(3) acknowledgment containing the language the IRS requires for substantiation — the amount, the date, our exempt status, and confirmation that no goods or services were provided in exchange. Monthly donors get one for every month's gift, not just the first.

Can I change or cancel a monthly gift?+

Yourself, in about thirty seconds, at redorm.co/donate/manage. Enter the email you donated with and we'll send a secure link where you can change the amount, update your card, or cancel outright — effective immediately, no questions asked and no need to talk to anyone. If you'd rather a human did it, email success@redorm.co or call (323) 813-7084 and we'll handle it the same day.

Can I give through a donor-advised fund, by wire, or with stock?+

Yes to all three, and for larger gifts they're better than a card — none of them lose 2-3% to processing fees. Email success@redorm.co and we'll send account details the same day.

Does employer matching work?+

It does. ReDorm Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3), so it should appear in your employer's matching portal. If it doesn't, email success@redorm.co and we'll send whatever documentation your program needs.

Will you sell or share my information?+

No. We never sell, rent, or trade donor information, and we don't pass it to other organizations. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch our servers.

Can my campus give instead of paying for ReDorm Gold?+

Often, yes — a gift from a green fund, a student sustainability fee, or a foundation account can be simpler for a university to move than a software purchase order, and it avoids procurement entirely. Email success@redorm.co and we'll help you figure out which route your institution actually allows.

Giving another way?

Donor-advised fund grants, wire transfers, appreciated stock, employer matching, foundation grants, and gifts from a campus green fund all work — and for anything sizeable they beat a card, since none of them lose a few percent to processing. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll send what your institution needs.
