ReDorm Featured in Reuse Alliance's Move-Out/Move-In Spotlight

ReDorm has been featured in “Move-out/Move-in”, a piece published by the Reuse Alliance on how campuses and cities are keeping usable belongings out of the landfill at the end of the academic year. We are honored to be highlighted alongside the programs it covers.
The Reuse Alliance is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been building and supporting the reuse field since 2001, when it began as a network of reuse practitioners in New York City. Being included in its coverage puts campus dorm reuse in the company of the broader reuse movement rather than treating it as a niche campus-sustainability concern, which is the argument ReDorm has been making to universities from the start.
The piece, written by Phoebe Schenker, looks at move-out season from several angles at once. It covers MoveOutATX, the Austin program running since 2018 that now keeps tens of thousands of pounds of household goods out of the landfill each year during lease turnover, along with its Free Furniture Market; UT Austin's student-led Trash to Treasure sale; and the Making Amends upcycling workshops. It closes with resources for anyone trying to start something similar on their own campus.
ReDorm appears in that lineup, and the article tells the origin story: founder JJ Flores noticed the overflowing dumpsters at USC in 2022 and started building a resource for universities that wanted to run move-out and move-in as one connected program. The piece also points readers to ReDorm's library of move-out programs at universities across the country.
The through-line across every program in the piece is the same one ReDorm keeps running into: the material is already there, it arrives on a predictable calendar, and the difference between a dumpster and a storefront is whether anyone has built the operational scaffolding to catch it. Seeing city-scale and campus-scale efforts written up together makes that easier to argue, not harder.
